 Aug. 8 : In a bizarre incident, 60 class X students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya at Majhgaon in West Singhbhum went missing. They left their school campus early in the morning on Wednesday without informing the authorities.

As the news spread authorities of the hostel rushed to the Majhgaon police station to lodge a missing complaint and then informed the West Singhbhum district education department.

The police launched a search operation found the whereabouts of 20 girls till 4 pm and were sent to the school. The students were found at their respective homes and some at their relative’s place.

Hostel warden and in-charge Sangeeta Kumari who found out about the missing girls at around 5:30 am informed the police station.

Students who were found and sent back to the school said that they took the step in protest to the transfer of four teachers by the district education department on account of poor results in board exams this year.

The West Singhbhum district superintendent of education (DSE) Neelam Irelene Topo visited the school today along with other officials to take stock of the situation. “ It is too early to comment why the students left their hostel. We are probing the incident,” he said.

“We have been taking care of the students. As per our schedule all the girls are supposed to be on the field for sports activities early in the morning. I spotted only eight girls from class X and asked them to find out they were not in the campus.

I immediately went to the police station to lodge a complaint and then gradually informed everybody. They were all there till last night,” said Sangeeta Kumari. She said they are contacting their parents to know whether they have reached their houses or not,” she noted.

Earlier on June 21, two students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Sundarnagar fled their school by jumping over the boundary wall, to be later caught by local residents in Parsudih.

The two students, aged 12 years and 10 years, who were sisters had fled. The students claimed that they were suffering from fever and the administration of the residential school was not attending to their sickness.

Latter on after being nabbed, the local residents handed them to the Parsudih thana where the police called in their guardian and also the school authorities before handing them.
